Cat Amongst the Pigeons - 2007

Posted On 08-04-2008 , 8:18 PM

Hot off the press!!  I received my weekly email from Paul's of Chevy Chase this morning and it was full of good news.  The 2007 vintage of  Barossa Earth "Cat Amongst the Pigeons" is in stock and available in limited quantity.

Here are my tasting notes from the 2006 vintage.

1.  "Nine Lives" Shiraz (92 points Wine Advocate) - opaque purple in color, hints of spice on the nose, and layers of flavor; blueberry and blackberry.  Very nice finish.

2.  "Cat Walk" Cabernet Sauvignon (91 points Wine Advocate) - purple / black in color, again hints of spice on the nose, and a nice layer of cherry...juicy wine with a smooth finish.

3.  "Alley Cat" Shiraz (70%) / Grenache (30%) (91 points Wine Advocate) - one of my favorites..deep color, hints of cherry and blueberry on the nose and palate...very smooth beginning to end with a lingering finish on the palate.

4.  "Fat Cat" Shiraz (75%) / Cabernet Sauvignon (25%) (91 points Wine Advocate) - my favorite...nice deep color...espresso and licorice aromas, very juice and sweet fruit smooth finish.

Whippet Sauvignon Blanc 2007

Posted On 03-01-2008 , 6:59 PM

It's Saturday evening and I am enjoying another bottle of wine from Longview Vineyard with my wife and her girlfriend.  We are enjoying Longview Vineyard Whippet Sauvignon Blanc 2007.  Aromas of tropical passionfruit and mango described the aromas as I opened the Whippet Sauvignon Blanc 2007.  Whippet Sauvignon Blanc is well balanced, soft, crisp, flavors of passionfruit and melon, with a little acidity and spicy finish.  Purchased from Paul's of Chevy Chase.

Wine: Whippet Sauvignon Blanc
Vintage: 2007
Region: Macclesfield, Adelaide Hills
Grape: Sauvignon Blanc

Red Bucket Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2006

The gentleman with wind blowing through his hair holding a glass of wine is Duncan MacGillivray of Adelaide Hills Longview Vineyard.  I met Duncan at a wine tasting at Paul's of Chevy Chase.  It was very exciting to meet and discuss the wines of Longview Vineyard with Duncan.  Duncan was very friendly and took the time to discuss the wines that we were tasting with each customer.  He also signed bottles upon request.  My signed bottles will make my cellar more exciting when I share the story with my friends.

I purchased several bottles to include, Red Bucket Semillon Sauvignon Blanc (2006), Red Bucket Cabernet Shiraz (2005), Whippet Sauvignon Blanc (2007), and Yakka Shiraz (2006).

R Wines Pure Evil Chardonnay 2005

Posted On 02-14-2008 , 7:41 PM

Pure Evil.  I don't think so.  This Australian Chardonnay is nothing close to evil.  Light straw color, creamy and buttery, hint of pear aromas, light to medium bodied, with little spice and not a long finish.  This was not a bad buy for $10.99 from Paul's of Chevy Chase

I paired this with grilled shrimp brushed with green curry sauce and basmati rice.  The Pure Evil 2005 chardonnay was a nice combination with this meal.
