Spain is continuing to produce wines of excellent quality at an affordable price. Pontecilla Tempranillo 2006 represents wines of this quality and price. Pontecilla 2006 has a deep purple color, light berry fruit and a hint of vanilla on the nose and palate. There was a little spice and a smooth finish.
Pontecilla 2006 is recommended to be enjoyed with meat or chorizo (a pork sausage spiced with garlic and peppers). I didn't have chorizo, but I found Pollo Asado Autentico at Trader Joe's. This is thinly sliced chicken breast seasoned with black pepper, garlic, onion flakes, cilantro, paprika, crushed chiles, lime powder, cayenne, ground cumin, bell peppers, and laurel. The chicken is pre-packaged and marinading in all of these ingredients. I emptied the entire packaged in the skillet and sauteed for less than 10 minutes until it was done.
I purchased Pontecilla 2006 from Paul's of Chevy Chase for an excellent price of $7.49.
