Red Bucket Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2006

The gentleman with wind blowing through his hair holding a glass of wine is Duncan MacGillivray of Adelaide Hills Longview Vineyard.  I met Duncan at a wine tasting at Paul's of Chevy Chase.  It was very exciting to meet and discuss the wines of Longview Vineyard with Duncan.  Duncan was very friendly and took the time to discuss the wines that we were tasting with each customer.  He also signed bottles upon request.  My signed bottles will make my cellar more exciting when I share the story with my friends.

I purchased several bottles to include, Red Bucket Semillon Sauvignon Blanc (2006), Red Bucket Cabernet Shiraz (2005), Whippet Sauvignon Blanc (2007), and Yakka Shiraz (2006).

R Wines Pure Evil Chardonnay 2005

Posted On 02-14-2008 , 7:41 PM

Pure Evil.  I don't think so.  This Australian Chardonnay is nothing close to evil.  Light straw color, creamy and buttery, hint of pear aromas, light to medium bodied, with little spice and not a long finish.  This was not a bad buy for $10.99 from Paul's of Chevy Chase

I paired this with grilled shrimp brushed with green curry sauce and basmati rice.  The Pure Evil 2005 chardonnay was a nice combination with this meal.

Roncier Rouge Maison L. Tramier & Fils

Roncier Rouge the other half of the well kept secret from Burgundy.  Very nice color, hints of strawberry aroma, and soft tannins with a pleasant finish.  Remember this is a no vintage, 100% Pinot Noir (?), and a bargain for $6.99.  I purchased the Roncier Rouge from Pearson's Wine & Spirits in Washington DC, but I have also seen this at Calvert Woodley (Washington DC).

Suggested food pairings are simple or complex meals, and goes best with delicatessen, meat, and cheeses.

I enjoyed the Roncier Rouge with Olive Garden Take-out.  I apologize for it not being a home cook meal, but it was after a long day.  Roncier Rouge paired well with Lasagne Rollatini with Chicken.  The flavors complimented the spices in the dish.

Wine: Roncier Rouge
Vintage: Unknown
Region: Burgundy
Grape: Pinot Noir (?)
Cost: $9.99 / sale $6.99

Sterling Vintners Collection Pinot Noir 2006

Sterling Vintner's Collection Pinot Noir 2006.  Excellent Pinot Noir from Napa Valley for $8.99.  This is the best under $10 pinot noir that I have enjoyed.  I purchased Sterling Vintner's Collection Pinot Noir 2006 from Pearson's Wine & Spirits in Washington DC.  Deep purple color,  black cherry aroma with a hint of vanilla,  enjoy juicy flavors from beginning to end.  Soft tannins with a smooth lingering finish.

I enjoyed Sterling Vintner's Collection Pinot Noir 2006 with pepperoni and sausage pizza.

Wine: Sterling Vintner's Collection Pinot Noir
Vintage: 2006
Region: Napa Valley
Grape: Pinot Noir

Cline Ancient Vines Zinfandel 2005

Cline Ancient Vines Zinfandel 2005 (Cline Cellars).  I didn't realize I had this wine in our basement (I am working on my wine cellar management...I will give all blog members access to see what I am purchasing, drinking, and holding).  I was looking for a good wine pairing for grilled flank steak.

I tasted a piece of the flank steak (medium) with the wine when I first opened the bottle.  The flavors didn't burst out initially, but I was hoping that as the wine opened up the flavors would come out.  We ate dinner after allowing the wine to breath for about 45 minutes.  I was correct.  Here are dinner and my tasting notes:

Dinner: Grilled flank steak salad (grilled flank steak seasoned with salt, pepper, garlic salt, season all), on a bed of mixed greens with crumbled blue cheese, french onion rings (out of can) and italian dressing (my choice), bleu cheese dressing (wife choice).

Tasting Notes:  The wine definitely opened up after 45 minutes.  Dark purple color, soft tannins, nice raspberry flavors with a little spice and vanilla on the end complimented the grilled steak flavors, blue cheese, and italian dressing.  The flavors continued to open up as we drank Cline Ancient Vines Zinfandel 2005.

Wine: Cline Ancient Vines Zinfandel
Vintage: 2005
Region:  Contra Costa County
Grape: Zinfandel
Cost: $15.99
