Tasted 12/13/07
Barossa Valley has done it again. Barossa Earth "Cat Amongst The Pigeons" has 4 feline friends that you have to try. I had the pleasure of tasting these 4 wines at Paul's of Chevy Chase in Washington DC on a Thursday (normal tasting Friday 5:30 to 8:00 pm) night special tasting. Here you go:
1. "Nine Lives" Shiraz (92 points Wine Advocate) - opaque purple in color, hints of spice on the nose, and layers of flavor; blueberry and blackberry. Very nice finish.
2. "Cat Walk" Cabernet Sauvignon (91 points Wine Advocate) - purple / black in color, again hints of spice on the nose, and a nice layer of cherry...juicy wine with a smooth finish.
3. "Alley Cat" Shiraz (70%) / Grenache (30%) (91 points Wine Advocate) - one of my favorites..deep color, hints of cherry and blueberry on the nose and palate...very smooth beginning to end with a lingering finish on the palate. TOOK 1 HOME!
4. "Fat Cat" Shiraz (75%) / Cabernet Sauvignon (25%) (91 points Wine Advocate) - my favorite...nice deep color...espresso and licorice aromas, very juice and sweet fruit smooth finish. TOOK 1 HOME!

Hayman & Hiill Interchange 2006 (White Wine Blend)
This is a wine that my friend (taster66) tasted at Grape & Gourmet in Virginia Beach, VA at their weekly Friday night wine tasting event. Here are taster66 tasting notes:
"Very crisp and smooth taste. I feel it go well with any chicken dinner. It could also be used as a everyday wine. A little costly ($15.00) for a everyday wine but will suit well for any occasion for all wine drinkers. For Chardonnay lovers or new wine drinkers, this will be a good start".
Wine: Hayman & Hill Interchange 2006 Reserve Selection
Vintage: 2006
Region: Santa Barbara County
Grape: 47% Chardonnay, 34% Sauvignon Blanc, 7% Muscat Canelli, 5% Malvasia Bianca, 4% Semillon, 3% Gewertztraminer. |

E. Guigal Cotes du Rhone 2003

I purchased a 1/2 bottle of 2003 E. Guigal Cotes du Rhone $7. I tried it by itself, without food after decanting it for about 45 minutes. It was slightly bitter---I could taste cranberry and acidity. The flavor doesn't last long---light bodied. It was a good wine for the money.
Wine: 2003 E. Guigal Cotes du Rhone
Vintage: 2003
Appellation: Cotes du Rhone
Region: Rhone
Grape: Red Rhone Blend |
